Mike began his 36 year career in local government as a utilities operator with the District of North Vancouver. He spent 6 years as their Deputy Utilities Superintendent before moving to Vancouver Island. Mike worked for the Municipality of Saanich as Waterworks Manager, then, after a brief turn to the Dark Side as a Human Resources Manager, returned to Engineering as the Manager of Public Works.

He retired in May 2017 from the City of Victoria, where he was the Utilities Manager. Throughout his career, Mike has been an advocate for operator education and professional development of Utilities staff.

BIOGRAPHY | Mike Ippen

Mike has been an instructor in local government operations since 1991, and has developed curriculum and delivered training throughout BC, Yukon and Ontario.  Mike has worked with WWWS for over seven years and is one of the prime instructors of the EUM Certificate Programme.

Mike has served as a Director for the Public Works Association of BC, BC1 Call and the BC Water and Waste Association. He is currently the Past President of the BCWWA, and Executive Director of BC1 Call.

Mike lives in Central Saanich with his wife, Stephanie. His new hobby is shaking his fist at the neighborhood squirrels and arguing with the 6 o’clock News.
